Alison began riding in 1979 at the age of 6. Her parents
quickly realized just how much she loved the sport of riding. With their support and encouragement
she began showing at the age of 8 and hasn’t stopped. She began instructing and training in 1993 and opened her
first farm in 1996. She has
competed in many disciplines, including Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation, Dressage,
Western Pleasure, Cutting and even dabbled in Barrel Racing. Although well versed, her true love has
always been Equitation and Show Jumping.
She currently owns a Jumper and Dressage prospect. She thrives when working with “damaged”
horses that others have given up on.
She takes the same approach with horses that she does with her students;
one day at a time with love, patience and compassion.
Alison has trained with many of the “greats” as well as some of Georgia’s most respected trainers. Her time in the saddle George Morris, Greg Best and Ginny Joyner proved to be some of the most challenging yet rewarding rides of her life.
Alison has been bringing riders along from their first ride and on into the show ring for many years. Many of her riders have gone through the ranks of local schooling shows to AA’s and some have gone on to obtain riding scholarships at college. She has over 20 years experience in all levels of riding and although she loves taking her students to the show ring, her passion is in the beginning. That first day a child begins their journey with a horse. There are few things that compare to the smile on the face of a child when they master some small milestone with their horse. Alison firmly believes that clear communication between a trainer and the student is the key to successful communication between the rider and their horse. She teaches with a tremendous amount of encouragement and positive reinforcement and is sure to make time for all of her students to really get to know the horses as she believes this relationship is imperative for successful riding. She teaches every student the same whether the goal is simply to enjoy riding or become a competitive rider. At the end of the day, we all share a common love for horses!!
